I love my Mom

I had a wonderful visit with my mother this weekend
She was in town for a seminar and spent the night
with us on Saturday and went to church with me on Sunday.

She loves going to my church, she has been with me 3-4 times now over the last few years.
She, like many people, had a lot of misconceptions (misunderstandings) of the Catholic Church. For example, our veneration of the blessed Mother.

Mom was inspired by the Mass, the prayers, and the music, but mainly by the love our parishioners have for each other.

You dont have to have to belong to a particular church or have a certain belief to recognise God/Love.

Churches do not have a lock on Love, but some, like mine, while certainly not perfect, seem to at least have a key :o)

Happy monday (bleccch)

Hi Keren. I'll tell you something, I haven't been a regular church-goer for 4 years, and have never been Catholic, but last summer we attended a funeral mass, and I loved it. In spite of the grief, I felt a sense of comfort for the ritual, and could feel that on others as well.

As a girl, most of my closest friends were Catholic, so I did have opportunity to attend mass quite often, and I always enjoyed it, but never did I feel how I did last summer. The peace was overwhelming. I have generally railed against ritual, however, I found it to be beautiful, especially at this time.

I know everyone is different but To me the rituals are pretty much what drew me in and are sooo comforting. Just watching people lining up for the Eucharist gives me a strong feeling and solid awarness of our connection to each other and our oneness in God.

This is the first church I have ever belonged to, (baptised age 45) and I *feel* my belonging to it and that is a great feeling.

In this rapidly changing world to me it is wonderful to have a place that really doesnt change, only somehow becomes richer and deeper each time I enter into its space.

and...the Mass is the same wherever you are in the world, there may be subtle differences, but the Eucharist is the Eucharist. The Word is the Word. (you know that :o)

I remember as a child, (4 years old) when JFK was assassinated, and we were glued to our black and white television for weeks.
Jackie in her black dress and veil. She commented how wonderful it was to be Catholic, how the rites and prayers support and help deal with the death of a loved one, and help ease the transistion for all to another phase in our existence.

Any way, thanks for the note!
Peace
