Love unites all, whether created or uncreated. The heart of God, the heart of all creation, and our own hearts become one in love. That's what all the great mystics have been trying to tell us through the ages. Benedict, Francis, Hildegard of Bingen, Hadewijch of Brabant, Meister Eckhart, Teresa of Avila, John of the Cross, Dag Hammarskjeld, Thomas Merton, and many others, all in their own ways and their own languages, have witnessed to the unifying power of the divine love. All of them, however, spoke with a knowledge that came to them not through intellectual arguments but through contemplative prayer. The Spirit of Jesus allowed them to see the heart of God, the heart of the universe, and their own hearts as one. I pray/meditate/contemplate/
pray the Rosary/walk the labyrinth at my church/ etc. and it gives "pause" to my over active brain - much needed rest and quiet.
To me also...and it is not constant...yet...
but to me, during my ordinary day when I FEEL the spirit of Jesus/God/Love in me is when I KNOW IT!
I ponder alot about it but when I do something that I dont actually decide to do, but it happens anyway, and I recognize it as "good" or perhaps "reflecting the heart of God" and I pause and say "wow, that was great", but then recognize it is God in me, not me doing the good or the hard thing, is what really allows me to see.
The "knowing" seems to come from the "knowing" that it is not KEren at all, but God doing the heart-felt smiles, the laughter and goodness, but also the hard stuff which takes courage and comes from the "heart" but not ever easy.
